All attendees will also receive a FREE copy of Amb. Power’s book The Education of An Idealist (while supplies last) and the event will be immediately followed by a book signing.
Irish-American academic, author, and diplomat, Samantha Jane Power served as the 28th United States Ambassador to the United Nations and as a member of President Obama’s cabinet. As a youngest ever U.N Ambassador, Power dealt with a range of issues, working on United Nations reform, women’s rights, LGBT rights, the global response to the refugee crisis, reducing human trafficking and promoting democracy. Amb. Power, a Pulitzer-winning author, will be discussing her recently released memoir The Education of An Idealist which chronicles her transition from outside activist to government insider and explores the impact one person can have on the world.
About the Moderator:
Jay Wang is the director of the Center on Public Diplomacy and an associate professor of strategic communication and public diplomacy at University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. He was formerly with the international consulting firm McKinsey & Company, where he advised clients on matters of communication strategy and implementation across a variety of industries. He has published widely on the role of communication in the contemporary process of globalization, with an area focus on China, including Shaping China’s Global Imagination: Branding Nations at the World Expo; Soft Power in China: Public Diplomacy through Communication (editor), Foreign Advertising in China: Becoming Global, Becoming Local, and China’s Window on the World: TV News, Social Knowledge and International Spectacles (co-author).
