Los Angeles, CA – Yesterday, at the October 15th meeting of the USG Senate, the Senate passed SB144-10: A Bill to Amend the Budget by a unanimous vote.
SB144-10 amends the 2024-2025 budget to increase financial support for the Office of Student Basic Needs (OBSN), ensuring that “as many students as possible can benefit from available resources.” While the main purpose of the bill was to reallocate funds for the OBSN, part of the bill also decreased appropriations for the Student Stipends and Legal Services accounts.
“The Fernandez-Sanchez administration is committed to ensuring that we are appropriately allocating our resources and budget throughout the term. We’re enthusiastic about the passage of SB144-10, where we’re increasing funding for the Trojan Food Pantry and continuing to support the USC student body,” said President Bryan Fernandez, who co-authored the bill with Vice President Brianna Sanchez.
The October 1st Senate meeting also featured presentations from Speaker Diana Carpio and the Affordability and Basic Needs Committee.
The USG Senate meets every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in TCC 450 (Tutor Forum). Every Senate meeting has an open forum. This is a space for any person to express ideas and/or concerns to the Senate in a verbal manner.
